TUG Mission Statement
The Mission of the TUG (Tri-City Unemployment Group) is to provide career management services, job-seeking skills, education and training in an environment that encourages and facilitates networking, mutual support, and maintaining a positive attitude, with the ultimate goal of meaningful employment.
Overview
TUG (Tri-City Unemployment Group) was organized in October 2001 by several concerned community leaders and representatives of several St. Charles churches as an ecumenical and grass-roots effort to help address the needs of St. Charles and Tri-City residents who were unemployed or underemployed. Our initial investigations showed that, unlike in other west suburban communities, few direct and comprehensive community services were available for such residents as they sought and continue to seek meaningful work that allows them to support themselves, their family and their community.
The group gathers at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles every 2nd and 4th Monday evenings of the month. The first part of each gathering is a general presentation on a topic related to the job search process, such as dealing with personal and family stress, resume writing, interviewing skills, financial management, career skills assessment, networking, and automating the process. The second half of the program provides an opportunity for direct networking and interpersonal support. Individual assistance and guidance is provided, one-on-one, by steering team members and other vocational experts.
Over 8,500 residents throughout the Tri-City and surrounding areas have sought out TUG services, depending on their specific needs and current place in the job search process. TUG services are free to all those who attend. Please consider yourself welcome to join us whether you are unemployed, underemployed or wishing to enhance your networking opportunities.
Meeting Place
Our meetings are held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church (Fellowship Hall) at 1145 North 5th Avenue in St. Charles.
