TUG - Tri-City Unemployment Group logo

TUG is administrated by an Executive Director, which is the only paid position. A Steering Committee (SC) of volunteers whom desire to give back to the community oversees the ultimate direction of TUG. The steering committee meets monthly and consists of the following roles:

Finance/Accounting

Responsible for working with Bethlehem Lutheran Church (which acts as TUG’s Treasury) in making sure that our monthly expenditures are provided for. Maintain the balance sheets for TUG. Work closely with Fundraising to keep our donations ahead of expenditures.

Fund-raising/Grant Proposals

Work to assess how we can best raise additional funds for the benefit of TUG. Put together proposals, grant requests, etc. as needed. Unearth possible opportunities for TUG to participate in. Make phone calls as needed and develop a campaign for contributions from the community, TUG members - past and present, and other mutually agreed upon sources.

Scheduler of Speakers and Staff Meetings

Present ideas for potential speakers to Director (i.e. through TUG or SC member referral or visiting other job club websites). Set up a calendar for the SC members to provide introductions and conduct the networking portion of the TUG meetings. Send out reminders for the intros, facilitating the networking, and SC meetings. Also, serve as a liaison with Baker Memorial Church and St. Charles Library should our meetings need to change.

Public Relations/ Strategic Liaison

Define other job clubs, churches or networking support groups that can be included in the TUG meetings. This should be done in an effort to extend networking opportunities for our members. Also, approach area employers and recruiters for inclusion in our networking segment. Keep pastors abreast of TUG happenings and seek to include them where they can offer advice, counsel, presentations, etc.

Database Management

Collect the names and addresses from our New Member Survey, input into a database program for maintenance of the TUG members list. Keep all records current and up-to-date. Assist with the gathering of data if a special survey is being conducted (i.e. Monkey Survey).

Secretary

Attend SC meetings and record the minutes of the meeting. Indicate who is in attendance for these meetings and record comments/ideas/suggestions from these meetings and name the member who initiated the thought. Provide (via email) a detailed record of minutes to all SC members within a week of the meeting.

Web site Management and Hosting

Make additions and changes to the website as needed. Update TUG information in a timely manner - i.e. calendar and speaker presentations. Verify the content of information on the website to maintain accuracy for our members. Suggest links that could be advantageous to TUG for the purpose of job postings, networking groups, etc.

Committee Leadership (Meeting Facilitator)

Serve as a mentor and networker to assist our members in introducing themselves to other members, speakers, etc. at TUG meetings. Encourage the job buddy system. Be an advocate for action to get our members moving forward in their job searches.

Counselor/Coach

Work one-on-one with the members of TUG. Provide listening as needed, prodding as needed and additional resources within the community as needed. Keep members focused on what is happening that is working and outlining more activity in areas where they need help.

E-news Distribution

Provide meeting notices, job leads, sharing of relevant information to the job seeker, etc. to TUG members. Keep list of active TUG members to be shared with Database Management.

Graphic Designer

Create ads and fliers for our members and prospective members. Keep and create promotional material up-to-date.
